History and uniqueness

In 1915 ‘The Cooperative of Cheese producers’ was founded as cooperative to export full-cream cheese under the Government Quality label. Later the name changed into ‘De Producent’. The cooperative’s core mission is to strengthen the trading position of farmers. Prior to the foundation of the cooperative, farmers sold their cheese to traders conform market prices, sometimes below cost-price. Establishing the cooperative allows the farmers to receive a guaranteed purchase of their products against fixed compensation for the cheeses.
